_DSC0281Lights is the youth group of St Thomas’ Anglican Church, North Sydney. We’re a welcoming, energetic and growing youth group made up of over 70 young people from all over Sydney who meet to learn from the Bible, hang out with friends, and have heaps of fun.

Lights is all about the life-transforming love of God shown to us in Jesus Christ (check out ‘why we exist‘ to find out more).

Lights is a Christian youth group, so when we get together we want to do three things: love God, love each other, and love life. We love God by listening to him in his word and changing our lives accordingly, by praising him in song and by talking to him in prayer. We love each other by hanging out, sharing joys and struggles, helping each other and sharing fun times. And when you put loving God and loving each other together, we love life.

Friday nights
Lights meets weekly on Friday nights during school terms from 6:30-9pm in the Memorial Hall at St Thomas’ (Cnr Church & McLaren Sts, North Sydney). A typical Friday night includes:

– A bible talk given by one of our leaders
– Discussion in age/gender groups
– A time of singing and prayer
– Games
– Time to hang out over supper

Some Friday nights we meet all together, and some nights we split Juniors (Years 7-9) and Seniors (Years 10-12) for all or part of the night.

We also have one special event night each term (called a ‘Highlight‘). This is usually a purely social night either on or off-site.

Sundays Lights also meets on Sundays, at different times for Juniors (Years 7-9) and

Seniors (Years 10-12).

Years 7-9 meet on Sunday mornings during school terms from 10am until about 11.15am (during the St Thomas’ 10am church service) in the Memorial Hall. This meeting is known as ‘Daylights’. At Daylights we play games and spend time in our discussion groups doing bible studies.

Years 10-12 no longer go to Daylights, as many help lead Sunday School for younger children. Instead, they have Evening Church at 5pm in the St Thomas’ church building. Evening Church usually goes until around 6.30, and afterwards there is a time for fellowship over supper.

Summercamp
Each year we also go away together on our annual Summercamp. Held for five days at ‘Rathane’ (a Youthworks site in Port Hacking), Summercamp is an amazing time spent in community loving God, loving each other, and loving summer. It is not to be missed.
